Final Paper 645

Purpose and Learning Outcome:

I feel that this way the students will grasp the concept of writing neatly. It will give the teacher the chance to grade on how neatly they can write their letters. This is a very important thing to accomplish while going through school.

The students will be given a sheet with multiple lines and mixed letters. They will circle all of the letters in a line that I ask them to circle by calling them out to the class.

Assessment Context:

Reading a book the best they can to the teacher, using words and pictures both to guess at the words will be very helpful in the long run.

Holistic scoring:
Understanding
1. Good
2. fair
3. poor

Solving
1. good
2. fair
3 poor

answering/knowing
1. good
2.fair
3 poor

Test constraints:

With this age of students I feel that the best test constraints would be true and false, matching, and fill in the blank.

The thought process behind teaching pre-school students

start a new post in your blog that explains your thought process and rationale behind the test items and essay item(s)

While working with younger children, especially preschool aged kids, you should keep in mind that the test should not be too difficult.

I have chosen the tests that I have because I feel that they fall right into the right age appropriate level for the kids, and the essay question would fit well for them as well and not be overly bearing either.  The first question I picked is a verbal question so that the children can first get used to hearing and seeing the letters both.  This way the teacher will be able to tell if they know what they are doing with the letter knowledge.

Second I have chosen matching question.  The students will then be able to see the question and answer both and match them up to the proper answers.  This will help the teacher to see if they understand the upper and lowercase matches of letters.

With the third question I have picked to use the written compensation.  The teacher will be able to tell  if the kids can fill in the missing letters on a page and also if the kids have good coordination with scissors and glue.

Finally with the third question it is my essay question.  I feel that this way the students will grasp the concept of writing neatly.  It will give the teacher the chance to grade on how neatly they can write their letters.  This is a very important thing to accomplish while going through school.

Write at least three measurable learning outcomes for a hypothetical unit of study and grade level of your choosing.

1.  The students will write their alphabet by first copying the letters that are dotted (shaded).

2.  Then by using the dotted lined paper, a copy of the alphabet is the next step.

3.  Finally, suing letters in the alphabet the students then can construct a word or words in the remainder of the paper.

Develop at least three test items that support your outcomes, and write at least one essay item that supports your outcomes.

1.  The students will be given a sheet with multiple lines and mixed letters.  They will circle all of the letters in a line that I ask them to circle by calling them out to the class.

2.  The students will then match the uppercase letters with the lowercase letters.

3.  Students will be given cut out letters that they will sort out. Then they will glue the letters on another sheet of paper that is missing some letters and has some letters already written on it.

4.  The Essay question will start with having the students working with the letters on a shaded sheet of lettered paper.  They will copy the letters as carefully and as neatly as possible.  The students will pass based on how neatly they copy their letters on the paper.
